Surrounded by high-tech companies, industrial laboratories and MIT campus buildings, One Kendall Square is not the first place you would think of as a haven for trendy, vibrant nightlife. This fact is one of the reasons club Shine decided to settle into its garden-level digs just across the brick plaza from Tommy Doyle's Irish Pub -- the owners want to establish a "resurgence of life in Cambridge." The scene is self-described "Miami": white minimalist dcor (chairs designed by Frank Gehry, the same architect of MIT's Dr. Seuss-like Stata Center down the street) and glowing neon walls do give the two bars a hip feel. The dinner menu is standard with a little south Floridian flare: sandwiches, salads, flatbread pizzas and sides which include yucca and fried plaintains. You can get a pulled pork Cubano or some "Shine Mac and Cheese" -- add prosciutto for only a dollar more. DJs spin tunes after 10pm on the weekends and Fridays are gay and lesbian nights.
