Rate and Write a Review One of Atlantic City's oldest and favorite casual dining institutions, Tony's originated in the resort's uptown Inlet district in the '20s. Loyal patrons followed them after the 1966 move to the current address at the corner of Iowa Avenue, a block from Tropicana. Unimposing in decor, the restaurant hasn't changed much over the years, which is just fine with its customers. Befitting the no-frills atmosphere, the bare tables and booths are topped with jukebox selection panels. Beverages include soft drinks, wines, cocktails, bottled and draft beers. The menu has barely changed, though a turkey breast sandwich for the cholesterol- conscious and chicken tenders for the kids are now available. The 196-seat restaurant is open 11AM to 3AM, and the adjacent bar is open 24 hours. On weekends in season, you'll see crowds line up on the sidewalk outside waiting patiently for tables. Dress is casual, and service efficient and friendly. Star attraction at Tony's is their fabulous thin- crust pizza, available in dozens of mutations from cheese to anchovies, mushrooms, sausage, broccoli, spinach, olives, pepperoni, and so on. Platters include meatballs, Italian sausage, fried shrimp, scallops and crab cakes. Pastas are the standard spaghetti, and ravioli with choices of tomato, clam, meat sauce, and sausage or meatballs. Tony's doesn't serve desserts, and it's pretty much an in-and-out fast service. Guests know what they're coming for, and are not given to dawdling. In fact, there's a tremendous take-out business, with just about everything on the menu available to go. --Ellen Burke Rawls
