You know the drill when it comes to Greek food: souvlaki, lamb, gyros, stuffed grape leaves, calamari, roasted eggplant, spinach-and-feta spanakopita. You'll find all of these and more at Taverna Plaka, one of Atlanta's few choices for Greek cuisine. You'll definitely want to sample the meze, the small plates of appetizers you can turn into a meal, and which come in hot and cold versions. If you're into the garbanzo bean and tahini spread known as hummus, this is one of the only establishments where you can mash your own, with ingredients brought to your table. The restaurant has three sections: the main dining room, a lounge and a covered patio for outdoor dining. And then there's the belly dancing, a big draw here. Performers include Aziza Nawal, who brings this Middle Eastern dance form to Taverna Plaka with an act suitable for all audiences. Between the belly dancing and the penchant of the waitstaff to dance on the tables, this will not be a boring dining experience. -- Edna McCown

Awful!
By blueanjel62 on 01/15/2008
From the beginning of entering the restaurant, my friends and I were greated rudely. The restaurant manager specifically was completely unprofessional and rude. When we were finally seated, the service was awful even though the restaurant was not even that busy. The food was good but it was not worth the awful service or the high prices. I would not recommend this restuarant to anyone. Awful Place!!

Tourist Trap
By mroseman8 on 06/12/2004
Went there tonight for a birthday party. First the bartender was downright rude while I ordered a bottle of mineral water (they only offered a Greek brand for $5). Then when our +16-member group was seated, our seedy waiter commenced to tell us that we had no choice but to pay $25/each for a set menu (every warm body at the table, $50 for myself & my wife). Then he proceeded to tell me that I was required to order drinks. I told him to "kiss my a__", complained about him to the manager and proceeded to leave the premises as quickly as possible. These people are rude, greedy and unscrupulous. This is probably the worst treatment I have ever received in a restaurant in the USA (and I travel heavily via work).
