A fixture on the Atlanta scene for more than a decade now, MJQ Concourse really took off back in 1997, when it moved from a tiny space in the basement of an old hotel into its current home in what used to be a parking garage. Though the club changed its name to MJQ Concourse and revamped its decor, it never lost its appeal for clubgoers looking to avoid the trendiness of Midtown and Buckhead nightlife.

The dimly lit interior, complete with comfy couches and a small dance floor, is warm and inviting, with a side room (featuring a second bar and an additional DJ booth) that allows for even more intimate conversation. MJQ isn't for everybody -- its below-the-radar status is a central aspect of its charm -- but it's a welcome oasis for fans of the hip sounds of house, hip-hop, drum 'n' bass and U.K. garage. -- Bret Love (Photo: Ken Carr)
