As much a part of Albany's fabric as "the Egg," the Miss Albany Diner has a well-worn appeal that visitors and locals alike can appreciate. Located on the way to Menands in an area that is otherwise devoid of entertainment, this classic diner is well worth the inconvenience of its remote location, tiny seating area and limited hours. The Pullman-style interior is charming, with cozy booths by the windows and counter seating complete with stools that twirl. The Mad Irish Toast (Texas-style french toast with pecan cream-cheese filling, smothered in butterscotch Irish whiskey sauce) inspires deep loyalty in some regulars. Other unique dishes include the Georgian Eggs (two eggs with sweet potatoes and red onions with a peanut sauce) and the Mad Eggs (two eggs on an English muffin with curry sauce). If you are somewhat less adventurous, take heart. Miss Albany also offers a wide variety of the more standard diner items, but with extras like real maple syrup and homemade sausage.
