Opened several years ago by a local attorney, downtown's Big House Brewing Company offers three floors teeming with homemade brews and live entertainment. Catering to young professionals and college students, the Big House showcases local bands and comedy acts, and is the launching place for a more than a few outdoor block parties in the summer. It is also known as a good place to meet people. Parking in this area is tricky, but this establishment doesn't seem to suffer for it.

In addition to what are known as some of the best locally brewed beers, the restaurant offers an array of steaks, burgers and pizzas to complement its beverages. With its casual atmosphere and choice of indoor or outdoor dining, the Big House is a sure crowd pleaser. -- Laura Sprague
